The following doses have been studied in scientific research:
BY MOUTH:
- For decline in memory and thinking skills that occurs normally with age: 1000-2000 mg of citicoline per day.
- For a group of eye disorders that can lead to vision loss (glaucoma): 500-1600 mg per day.
BY INJECTION:
- For decline in memory and thinking skills that occurs normally with age: Healthcare providers give citicoline as an injection into the vein (by IV).
- For a group of eye disorders that can lead to vision loss (glaucoma): Healthcare providers give citicoline as a shot into the muscle.
AS AN EYE DROP:
- For a group of eye disorders that can lead to vision loss (glaucoma): : Citicoline 2% eye drops, 3 drops per day for up to 3 years. *
For day-to-day cognitive enhancement, we recommend starting with 150mg of Citicoline per day, and then increasing to 250mg per day if necessary. This should be all you need to promote better brain function and healthier neuron formation over the long-haul.
Above 200mg per day, you’ll experience significant improvements in attention and working memory.
At 250mg of Citicoline per day, you’ll also see some pretty dramatic increases in focus, clarity, and information processing too.
Ideally, we think you should try to use a highly potent, standardized, branded form of Citicoline. Cognizin is best, although it is a little more expensive than standard Citicoline.
Of course, these recommendations are for otherwise healthy people looking to use Citicoline to enhance their cognitive performance. For clinical purposes, far larger doses of Citicoline are typically recommended.
For age-related cognitive decline, clinicians recommend you take 1000-2000 mg of citicoline per day.
For recovery from stroke or brain injury, it is recommended to take 500-2000 mg of citicoline per day starting within 24 hours of the event. *
Standard dosing of CDP-choline is to take 500-2,000 mg in two divided doses (of 250-1,000 mg) usually separated by 8-12 hours, although a single daily dose is also sometimes used. A single dose of 4,000 mg does not appear to affect the blood any differently than 2,000 mg, and so it is not necessary to take such a high dose. *
